A term coined by large chain warehouses and hardware stores selling mass-produced little bonsai-like trees from the (sub) tropics. They are sold as being indoor plants, leading to hundreds of death plants and disillusioned buyers. All plants do better outside then inside. Some plants however need winter-protection and are therefor brought indoors during cold periods.
